Using Webmaster Tools to Check For Problems

Now that I have enough content up a sitemap submitted to Google and Bing time to check with Googles Webmaster Tools to check for any problems.

sized down webmaster tools screenshotI was expecting some possible problems but not as many or the ones that I did. Nine duplicate title warnings.

The user account pages duplicate titles I could fix by either restricting with robots.txt (which I did) Or by overriding the user pages. Since I'm going to switch to a new theme soon enough and do not care if those pages are indexed I'll just restrict them with robots.txt

Next the duplicates for taxonomy pages. I have url aliases set up to over ride /taxonomy/term and Global Redirect installed this should not be accessable. I checked my server logs and a third party header check to make sure the proper 301 is being returned and all looks fine so I'll ignore this for another week and hope it disappears.

Now for the / and /index.php problem I'm still researching. There could be old links within Google as the current site has no links to it. .htaccess rewriting I'm still researching since a redirect is already in using index.php it causes problems.

Once I add more entries and my taxonomy pages get beyond one page I am expecting duplicate title (and meta descriptions once those page use them)
