This site is a local music / entertainmant site for a small market so ranking high for various search terms should be fairly easy.
Current #1 for Bellingham bands which should be expected for the domain name and site focus.
Free SEO analysis
Submitted by matt on Sat, 01/23/2010 - 22:11Most of the sites I visit suffer from a few simple mistakes that keep it from obtaining the search engine ranking and the traffic it deserves for its content.
A few plugins (depending upon the platform) and a few minutes per page could turn these low ranked sites into high rankers for their target audience.
Some call this type of activity SEO or search engine optimization. I'me sure like me if you have a website you've received tons of spam offering to bring your site to #1
Embedding a Google Docs Presentation into Drupal
Submitted by matt on Tue, 08/18/2009 - 20:37Many times an article requires more than can be comfortably fit on a normal page. Often just breaking it up into multiple entries works great, but some times a demonstration or presentation has to be quickly followed from beginning to end to work.
Moving a Joomla Site to Drupal
Submitted by matt on Mon, 08/17/2009 - 21:40Its time to take an old Joomla (1.0) site and convert it into a Drupal site. I'll be using the module - Joomla to Drupal.
The site contains just over 600 entries with search engine friendly urls (/section/category/title-to-url.html) and has a sobi directory but only 3 categories and less than 30 entries.
Adding Meta Descriptions to Taxonomy Pages
Submitted by matt on Sat, 08/08/2009 - 13:03In the previous meta description entries I created a meta description field for my content type, altered my page.tpl to show the meta description if it was available and used the site $mission field to use as the front page meta description.
Now I need to alter it again to use a taxonomies term description as the meta description for those pages. I also added a title alteration for paginated pages.
Using Webmaster Tools to Check For Problems
Submitted by matt on Tue, 08/04/2009 - 18:02Now that I have enough content up a sitemap submitted to Google and Bing time to check with Googles Webmaster Tools to check for any problems.
Drupal Sitemaps
Submitted by matt on Wed, 07/29/2009 - 20:33Because this domain was bought and used for a while for development and testing for all kinds of things its got continual search bot traffic to those old urls. Some of them I do not want to delete and force a 404 to get rid of.
A couple of google gadgets and other things I'd like to keep. But the robots are not searching the new content they are continually pulling things that will never change.
A sitemap.xml file would help as the fact that those pages would not be listed should get them to give more attention to the newer / real content.
More Drupal meta tag work
Submitted by matt on Wed, 07/29/2009 - 18:52Getting my meta description tag working how I wanted went well (Content Type Field Alterations More meta tag work) until I visited the taxonomy page and any other pages that weren't a normal node or the front page.
More meta tag work
Submitted by matt on Tue, 07/28/2009 - 20:07Now that I have my main content type collecting a meta description field I have to edit my template (For a few more days using Garland (I should have just copied Garland into the proper directory before I edited it but no worries for now)
Content Type Field Alterations
Submitted by matt on Tue, 07/28/2009 - 00:12After getting my must have modules installed I usually create or edit one of the default content types. Drupal lacks a meta description field which I feal is a must have for seo purposes. I'm not super worried about seo but it seems to me a that field is absolutely needed. (I skip the keywords field as its pretty much useless as far as I'm concerned)
The problem is after adding a meta description field through cck is that it will display it as a part of the entry instead of showing it in the proper header location (and telling fckeditor to exclude this field).
